Nicki Minaj poses for "Super Freaky Girl" cover

The song that has flooded the TikTok for you page for weeks has officially been released to streaming. Nicki Minaj is back on the top of the charts with this fun release.

On August 12, Nicki Minaj’s highly anticipated single “Super Freaky Girl” released to streaming. With opening of the song features the same portion heard on the video streaming service. This TikTok dance challenge is about to level up with the full release of this song.

Nicki Minaj’s Newest Song Tops the iTunes Charts

“Super Freaky Girl” has risen on the iTunes Top Songs chart since its release this morning. The tune is already on the top of the charts at No. 1. This single marks Minaj’s first release since “We Go Up” with Fivio Foreign. She also released “Blick Blick” with Coi Leray, and “Bussin” and “Do We Have a Problem” with Lil Baby. This is reportedly the singer’s first solo lead single since her 2018 hit “Chun-Li.”

This release of this song comes soon after Minaj was announced as this year’s recipient of the Video Vanguard Award at the MTV VMAs. In addition to her award, she will take the stage at the event for the first time in four years.

Some would argue that this track quickly rose to fame due to the success of the track it was sampled from. “Super Freaky Girl” is sampled from Rick James’s 1981 hit “Super Freak.” James’s track was nominated for the Grammy for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance at the 1982 Grammy Awards. It has since been used as a sample for MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This” and Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl.” Once this song went viral on TikTok, the official account for the late Rick James responded saying “Banger.”

We can’t wait to see if Minaj chooses to perform this song at the MTV VMAs. The VMAs will take place at New Jersey’s Prudential Center and air on MTV Sunday, August 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Voting for this event is now open to the public.
