Nick Cannon Talks Marriage to Mariah Carey
During an appearance on the Ray Daniels Presents podcast, Cannon got candid about his six-year marriage to Carey, during which they welcomed twins Monroe and Moroccan. He shared that he started to question who he was when they got together.
“I didn’t actually really care what the world thought because the perception, you know, that is what it is. People are going to love you one day, hate you the next day,” Cannon said. “I could care less about that. … But going to myself with that pressure of, ‘Who am I?'”
Cannon highlighted that he and Carey tied the knot when he was in his 20s, and Carey was “the biggest star in the world.” He added that Carey was “in a different stratosphere” of her career compared to him.
“I would lay up at night thinking, like, ‘Is is this who I am? Am I Mariah’s man? Is that what my life is supposed to be?'” Cannon recalled. “There’s nothing wrong with it. And I got really comfortable in it.”

Cannon Felt Insecure in His Masculinity
Cannon also admitted that he started to feel insecure in his masculinity when he and Carey welcomed their twins, saying, “I’m carrying a purse, the diaper bag and, you know, I’m standing on the corner like, ‘Wait.’ She’s rocking being the alpha.”
He agreed with Daniels that Carey “deserves it,” but shared, “I believe she needs a dude like that. I’m just not that dude.” Cannon explained that he felt like a “participant” in Carey’s world, whereas he wanted to be “the main character.”
Cannon added that he was “trying to prove that I’m a man.” He also shared that some of it had to do with health struggles he was facing at the time, as he was diagnosed with lupus in 2012. Cannon has called Carey “my rock” through that journey.
