The “Used to Be Young” music video appears to have been shot all in one take, with Cyrus staring into the camera while the lights brighten and dim. The singer is brought to tears as she performs the song’s deeply personal lyrics.
“Me and who you say I was yesterday / Have gone our separate ways / Left my livin’ fast somewhere in the past,” Cyrus sings on the song’s first verse. On the chorus, she sings, “I know I used to be crazy / I know I used to be fun / You say I used to be wild / I say I used to be young.”
On Instagram, Cyrus wrote that “Used to Be Young” is “about honoring who we’ve been, loving who we are & celebrating who we will become,” adding, “I feel proud when reflecting on my past and joyful when thinking about the future.”
The singer went on to share her gratitude for her fans’ “steadfast support,” ending her message by writing, “This song is for you.”
