American Idol winner Maddie Poppe released a new single today, “Made You Miss!” But fans have been meeting the song with mixed reactions, since it is more upbeat and heavily produced than her earlier music.
Take a listen to Maddie Poppe’s new single here:
The song is definitely more radio-like than her last three singles, including “Keep On Movin’ On” and “First Aid Kit.” Some fans are excited about her new sound! They see it as an evolution and proof that she can perform well across other genres.
But not all fans are exactly agreeing that her new sound is a good thing. It’s interesting to hear this new style from an indie/folk singer from Iowa. Plus, it’s totally different from what she did on Idol.
I personally understand both sides. Maddie Poppe is definitely talented and can sing anything, but I would like her vocals to be at the forefront more in her new songs. That undeniable talent is getting hidden by overproduced beats. I just want to hear her raw vocals! Her singing skills cannot be beat, so that should be the focal point.
After mixed reactions initially, Maddie defended her new song on Twitter, saying:
And of course, her boyfriend, and fellow American Idol finalist last season, Caleb Lee Hutchinson rose to her defense too.
