Maddie Poppe in the Spotlight: How ‘American Idol’ is Doing What No Other Shows Have

Whether you’ve seen it in our coverage or on your TV or radio, Maddie Poppe is EVERYWHERE! The American Idol winner has been constantly front and center, thanks to ABC’s early push for exposure. The amount of press she’s done has been amazing though. And it’s well-deserved for such a wonderful singer! Now, Maddie and the rest of the Top 7 are preparing for the American Idols Live! Tour. But how did American Idol manage to pull off what other talent shows never have?

To put it simply, it seems like American Idol, Hollywood/19 Records, and ABC actually care about Maddie’s success. Idol has one season a year, which should be an indication of this. They allow time in between seasons for them to properly promote the winners. ABC followed that up with basically giving her a spot on every major talk/news show they produce. Hollywood/19 Records has followed suit by getting Maddie in a recording studio already. Yes, she’s already working on an album!

Even if you don’t watch Idol, she has appeared on Good Morning America, LIVE with Kelly and Ryan, Jimmy Kimmel Live, the Radio Disney Music Awards, Access Hollywood, and more since her big win just over a month ago. She also performed at the Beauty and the Beast concert at the Hollywood Bowl, the Special Olympics opening ceremony, and at Amerifest on the 4th of July at the Rose Bowl. Just listing out all her appearances is exhausting!

All these strategies together show a concern and desire to succeed that other shows rarely have. Their focus isn’t necessarily just on the ratings, but on building up the artists. They’ve followed up her huge support from the show with the tools to help her become a star. Plus, it shows how much of a powerhouse Disney can be. They own both Hollywood/19 Records and ABC, which have given Maddie all these opportunities.

Maddie has also been extremely active online to keep up. This helps her seem reachable and relatable to her fans. She launched a YouTube series called “An American Idol Story” to document life since the show. The latest episode showed a photo shoot she had with the record label just EIGHT DAYS after her win. Maddie has this amazing ability to be so likable, quirky, and humble in the series. Her personality truly shines through!


Maddie has been performing her first single “Going, Going, Gone” all over the place too. Propelled by all the media appearances, the song peaked at 13 on the Billboard Digital Songs chart. She already released a music video for her winning single as well. The video has been up for a week and has almost 4 million views to date!

Now, Maddie and the rest of the Top 7 from this season are preparing to take the show on the road. She posts updates on her social media pages constantly from their rehearsals and her shenanigans with the other contestants. They have 47 shows they’ll be singing at from July to September. Season 8’s winner Kris Allen and Boy Band’s In Real Life will also be joining them as special guests!

Maddie will definitely be busy in the coming months! But with all the success Maddie is seeing since her American Idol win, maybe it’s better no chairs turned for her on The Voice a few seasons ago. She has certainly received nothing but the best treatment from Idol!
