Luke Bryan Speaks On Being An ‘American Idol’ Judge
As someone who covers these reality talent shows, and has been a fan since way back in the mists of time when American Idol premiered, I can tell you that the reboot is way different. Gone are the days of Simon Cowell being mean, Paula Abdul being nice, and Randy Jackson…er…doing whatever it is Randy Jackson did. With Luke Bryan on the panel it’s definitely a kinder, gentler show.
Maybe it was the move to ABC, (which is owned by Disney), or maybe it’s just the personality of the judges that makes the show so different. I think it’s probably a combination of both. Luke Bryan in particular just seems like the nicest guy in the world. He’s a Southern gentleman that probably opens doors for old ladies and calls people “mam” and “sir”. He told his buddy Idol host Ryan Seacrest on his radio show,
“When I have people come up to me that don’t know my music, but just loved the positivity that we were able to show, just having a positive show out there was really fun for me to a part of. If we do this for one more year or 20 more years I’m really happy that people could sit down with their families and watch it … nothing is more fun than watching dreams come true.”
He is a ray of sunshine in an increasingly bleak world. That’s part of what made the show so fun to watch. That and Katy Perry’s antics. Also they chose some seriously talented singers for the show, better than many of the other shows in my opinion.
