Kelly Clarkson recently covered a country song as part of the “Kellyoke” segment on her talk show, prompting fans to express their hope that the singer will venture into the genre on future projects.
Kelly Clarkson Performs Country Cover on Talk Show
On an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show earlier this month, Clarkson grabbed the microphone for her Kellyoke segment, performing a cover of “A Lesson in Leavin'” by Jo Dee Messina, originally recorded by Dottie West. As always, Clarkson sounded absolutely amazing on the song.
Messina herself commented on Clarkson’s performance, writing on Instagram, “WAHOOOOOO !!!!! Go girl !!!!! I LOVE it.” She wasn’t the only one who loved the cover, as fans shared their excitement over hearing Clarkson perform a country song.
“Kelly does sing pop, pop rock etc., but she is country as hell. She really needs to crossover and give us a pure country album,” wrote a fan on YouTube. Someone else shared a similar sentiment, commenting, “I dream of us getting a Kelly country album someday.”
Fans also chimed in with similar comments on Instagram. Could a country album be in Clarkson’s future? Her most recent album, Chemistry, was released in 2023, leaving fans hoping for another release from he singer.
Kelly Clarkson announced in February that she would be stepping away from hosting her eponymous talk show after the current seventh season ends. According to NBC Insider, new episodes of The Kelly Clarkson Show will continue to air through the fall of 2026.
In the meantime, everyone is wondering who will be taking over Clarkson’s spot. Earlier this month, it was rumored that Pink could become the permanent host after filling in for Clarkson as a guest host for some recent episodes. Olympic analysts Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir are also reportedly in the running.
