Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from her husband Brandon Blackstock earlier this year, and she’s been more and more candid about the experience in the months since.

Kelly Clarkson Talks About How Her Kids Are Handling Divorce
In a joint interview with fellow The Voice coach Gwen Stefani, Kelly Clarkson spoke to Extra‘s Nate Burleson about how her family is navigating divorce. “It’s just one day when you’re like, ‘Wow, this has forever changed and it’s not just my heart has changed, there’s other little hearts, too,'” Kelly explained.
“I have a great family and friends that are there for me,” Kelly said of her support system. “It’s a very hard thing to navigate, to be able to be honest and share your story, so maybe you can help someone else, but at the same time protecting these little kids you adore.”
“We have a lot of help as far as therapists or child psychologists ‘cause we want to do it right,” she added. “Everyone’s sad and it’s okay to be sad.” Gwen then told her, “You’re doing a really good job.”
Kelly Gets Candid About Her Divorce Experience
“I mean, it’s no secret, my life has been a little bit of a dumpster,” Kelly said of her divorce experience earlier this year. “I’ve been talking to friends that have been through a divorce. I don’t know how people go through that without having some kind of outlet because it is the worst thing ever for everyone involved.”
When she returned to her talk show, Kelly once again got honest about what it’s been like. “We have four kids and divorce is never easy,” she said. “And we’re both from divorced families so we know the best thing here is to protect our children and their little hearts.”
Kelly has been getting through this difficult time by working on new music. She has said her upcoming album will be “the most personal one I’ve ever released,” adding that it’s been “very therapeutic” for her.
