‘T-Rex’ from The Masked Singer also known as JoJo Siwa sat down and talked about her ‘gay awakening’ with Demi Lovato on her podcast, 4D with Demi Lovato on July 14. Surprise! It involves the former X Factor judge and Come Dance With Me‘s Jenna Dewan.
Siwa was gushing on Lovato’s podcast when telling them how much she loves them. Then, she started talking about how “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga had been one of her go-to songs, even before she knew she was gay. Siwa then went on to talk about her ‘gay awakenings.’
“I think I realized that my very first gay awakening was Jenna Dewan’s performance on Lip Sync Battle,” said Siwa on Lovato’s podcast. “I think that was one of them, but then I remember, do you remember your dancer JoJo Gomez?”
Lovato laughed at Siwa’s ability to name their background dancer from years prior. Siwa told Lovato that Gomez made her ‘a little too interested’ within the “Cool For The Summer” video. Then, Siwa told Lovato that her girlfriend, Kylie Prew, had gone to Lovato’s concert as one of her ‘gay awakenings’.
Lovato did share that “Cool For The Summer” was a song to talk about their pride, in a time when they weren’t comfortable coming out yet.
Jojo Was “Outted” On TikTok
Although many fans have speculated that this child star identified with the LGBTQ+ community, she had never said what sexual orientation she identifies with. Siwa was “outted” on @pridehousela‘s TikTok back in January.
This content house contains some former Teen Beach Movie stars. Siwa mentioned in her interview with Entertainment that she called her girlfriend as soon as she realized this collaboration would “out her.”
“The TikTokers from the pride house came over to my house so we did this TikTok together and it was like to the song ‘ain’t it fun ain’t it fun baby now you’re one of us’ and after I did it I called my girlfriend,” said Siwa who also mentioned that her girlfriend had not been out yet either. “And I was like I think after they post this TikTok, I think it’s going to out me, and she said it for sure is.”
Siwa later spoke that the TikTokers felt bad after the fact and asked if she wanted them to take the video down. She then spoke on how she’s happy they were able to help her come out.
