Dancing With The Stars isn’t even in season, yet it’s facing rigged vote allegations. The show, which has received these allegations since it’s first season, is now speaking out on the topic.
Dancing With The Stars Executive Producer Claims Show Doesn’t Rig Votes
Dancing With The Stars executive producer, Ryan O’Dowd spoke out about the vote rigging claims earlier this week. This producer insists that the show’s competition is not manipulated in anyway.
“We take that very seriously. We have never, nor would we ever do anything to manipulate the votes,” Ryan O’Dowd told Deadline.
Within the argument, O’Dowd admitted that the show’s credibility is important. Due to the show’s fan based nature, producers want to remain as unbiased as possible.
“It needs to allow the viewers to have a voice and to really be the voice of who deserves to win,” he continued. “So we have never nor would we ever want to manipulate that in any way.”
For those who may be unfamiliar, celebrity stars compete in roughly 10 weeks of ballroom dances for judges Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Derek Hough. Each episode, fans must vote for their favorite pair, so they can continue on the competition. Judge scores plus fan voting is the indicator of whether pairs go through.
The Show Broke Voting Records Last Season
Since the show’s 2005 conception, fans have been accusing the show of being rigged. As seasons go on, the ABC show continues to break voting records. Apparently, in season 33, DWTS broke a long-standing tradition by releasing viewer vote totals.
In October 2024, it was revealed that there were more than 14 million fan votes received for the season premiere. For those who may have missed it, this was the episode where Anna Delvey and partner Ezra Sosa, and Tori Spelling and Pasha Pashkov where eliminated.
At the time, Executive Producer Conrad Green noted that the increase in votes showed that the audience was passionate about the set of stars. Due to the show’s continual increase in viewership, records should be expected to be broken once again this Fall.
TikTok is being credited for the show’s current success. The show has been gaining wide spread traction on TikTok due to newest pro dancers, Rylee Arnold and Ezra Sosa. Both dancers had a large social media following ahead of their time on the show.
