Dancing with the Stars pro Witney Carson took to Instagram earlier this week to share her recent experience on a 13-hour flight home from Australia. Carson claims a flight attendant “kept shushing” her 2-year-old son Jet, prompting the dancer to ask fans for the opinion on the situation.
Witney Carson Calls Out Flight Attendant for Shushing Her Son
Witney Carson was recently in Australia with her family, visiting her DWTS Season 34 partner Robert Irwin. Their journey home after the trip included a 13-hour flight. Carson posted on Instagram stories about the experience — specifically her interactions with a flight attendant.
“Question for you guys, and be honest,” Carson wrote, “is it appropriate for a child to be quiet for the entire 13 hour flight? Jet was playing and giggling with me and we were asked to be quiet because a man up front said he was trying to rest.”
Carson said she understood “if there needs to be a certain time where we need to sleep but it’s in the middle of the day.” She added that she’s “a big advocate of worry about things that are in your control and put some freaking ear plugs in.”
She followed up in another story, saying a flight attendant on the plane “kept shushing Jet.” This prompted Carson to ask “if there were certain times on the flight we needed to be quiet.” She added that “if not, I don’t expect my children to sit quietly for 13 hours.”

What Do People Online Think?
Witney Carson later followed up in another Instagram story, telling her followers that she felt “very validated” by their response to the situation. She thanked them for “letting me rant,” joking, “We ride at dawn.”
However, not everyone was on Carson’s side. A fan posted the dancer’s stories on the flight attendant subreddit, asking for opinions. As they wrote, “If I was paying $6k+ for a first class seat, I’d be pissed too that your kids are being loud and ruining the cabin environment.”
A commenter questioned what Carson meant by “playing and giggling,” adding, “I’d bet money this lady’s kids were being extremely loud if they were actually asked to be quiet.” They argued, “Part of raising kids is teaching them to respect their environment. Sometimes we have to be chill when we’d prefer to be loud to avoid disturbing others.”
