Keith Beukelaer has faced Simon Cowell on television twice — on American Idol and The X Factor USA. Things didn’t go so well the first time, but Keith persevered, and he actually won Simon over the second time.
Keith’s X Factor audition had the judges on their feet and dancing. Even Simon Cowell couldn’t help but smile at the performance. It just goes to show that if at first you don’t succeed … try, try again.
Keith Beukelaer Auditions For ‘X Factor’
Before his X Factor audition, Keith revealed that he had auditioned for American Idol 10 years ago. He sang Madonna’s “Like a Virgin,” and Simon described him as “the worst singer in the world,” making him an iconic American Idol reject.
Instead of singing, Keith chose to rap for his next audition. As he walked out on stage, Simon recognized him, whispering to fellow judge Kelly Rowland that he was on American Idol.
Keith went on to perform “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-a-Lot. The female judges, including Demi Lovato and Paulina Rubio, had fun with the performance, dancing and mouthing along.
Kelly tried to pull Simon out of his chair to dance along with them, but he wasn’t having it. He did, however, laugh along as his fellow judges danced to the performance. “What’s the matter with you three?” he asked. “You’ve all gone crazy.”
What Did The Judges Think Of Keith’s Performance?
The first three X Factor judges voted “yes” to sending Keith through, with Kelly saying, “I had so much fun.” After that, it was Simon’s turn to weigh in. He seemed to be in a better mood this time, as he told Keith, “I also like big butts, so I’m gonna say yes.”
“To get a yes from all four judges, especially from Simon, means the world to me,” Keith said after his audition. He ended up being eliminated before boot camp, but it was still a big moment for him.
Keith has been a good sport about his now-infamous Idol audition. During an interview with American Idol Extra, he said nobody had told him he couldn’t sing until Simon Cowell. The ex American Idol reject also joked that he would have changed his hair if he had to do it all over again.
