A French Loss Led To UK Triumph On ‘The X Factor’ For Kevin Davy White
Kevin Davy White is one of the finalists on The X Factor UK and it’s easy to see why. With his sexy French accent, killer voice, and mad guitar skills he has wowed both the judges and the British public. But he wasn’t always a potential champion. His audition for The Voice France did not go as well.
It’s not that he was picked and was eliminated before the finals, no one turned around for him. NO ONE. This seems absurd to me given his talent but his version of Kings of Leon’s Use Somebody did not win over the French coaches. It definitely wasn’t his best performance and the song was an not the smartest choice but he was still really good and I guarantee you he was better than many who did get through.
So, why did he manage to go so far on The X Factor UK? I think it has something to do with British sensibilities as opposed to French ones. The Brits, if their favorite artists are any indication, love a rocker type. Look at The Rolling Stones or The Who. Who could resist Kevin singing George Michael or The Beatles? I think he and his mentors have been very savvy in how they’ve packaged him on The X Factor. Plus he’s exotic in Britain. In Paris he’s just another dude.
