BIO: Dustin Tavella took the stage as a magician who strives to inspire and connect people from all walks of life through magic. During the course of the America’s Got Talent competition, this magician branched personal stories into his on-stage magic routine. On September 15, 2021 he was crowned as the season 16 winner of America’s Got Talent.
Tavella has been candid about his childhood struggles. He and his sister grew up in a chaotic environment because their father was a drug dealer. He’s noted that they witnessed a lot of partying, alcohol and drug abuse early in life. Eventually, his parents met a couple at a Christian festival that helped them get their lives back on track. Tavella has noted that he picked up magic instead of drinking and partying when he was of age.
Magic wasn’t Tavella’s original career path. Ahead of America’s Got Talent, he was a full-time musician. He began his YouTube channel in 2010 where he released original music. On top of that, AGT wasn’t Tavella’s debut on television. Before the series he had appeared on the dating show Sweet Home Alabama in 2012. The show followed a similar format to The Bachelorette, but featured more cowboys.
