ComebackStage-Ayanna-Madison

Just like the broadcast of the show, The Voice‘s digital companion series “The Comeback Stage” also entered Battles this week. With fifth coach Kelsea Ballerini‘s team full, it’s time to get her team down to its top three artists! These artists will then have a chance to join the Live Shows. This week, we have Ayanna Joni going head-to-head with Madison Cain.

Let’s take a look at how they fared against each other!

Ayanna Joni vs. Madison Cain

These two powerhouse female vocalists were unable to turn a chair in their Blind Auditions. But they are back to fight for a spot in the Top 13! This doesn’t follow the format of the traditional Battles though, as they both sang songs individually.

We start off with Ayanna Joni! Ayanna was on the premiere episode of The Voice this season. She became a mother at 18 and put her musical aspirations on hold to raise her daughter. Now, she is back (with the unending support of her daughter) to pursue her dreams! Ayanna sang “Dangerous Woman” by Ariana Grande for the Battles. Her performance was pretty good, but overall it still wasn’t up to par with the Battles winners from the actual show. She showed improvement since her Blind Audition though and Kelsea seemed to take notice.

Next up was Madison Cain. Madison is the daughter of a member of Journey! She originally auditioned with “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morrissette but her cover failed to bring the passion and fierceness of the original. This time she went with “You and I” by Lady Gaga. This is another powerful song that requires a lot of attitude! And Madison brought it. While she had some pitch issues and overdid some parts of the song, her performance was better than her Blind Audition.

Kelsea gave both artists feedback, praising them for the progress they’ve made. She pointed our Ayanna’s strong vocals and Madison’s range and emotion. But in the end, she chose…Ayanna Joni as the winner! I think that was the right decision too. Kelsea says to Ayanna, “The way that your voice sounds recorded is like a pop record.” Quite the compliment!

“The Comeback Stage” will be back next week with another Team Kelsea battle.
