Chris Martin to Perform During ‘American Idol’ Coldplay Night

Coldplay fans should get excited about this week’s new episode of American Idol. In addition to celebrating Mother’s Day, the contestants will be paying tribute to some of the band’s most iconic songs during their Top 7 performances.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin will also appear during the episode to mentor the contestants and perform the band’s new single. It’s sure to get fans even more excited for their upcoming new album.

Get Ready for Coldplay Night on ‘American Idol’

On Sunday night, the Top 7 contestants on American Idol Season 19 will perform Coldplay songs. The night’s song list was released ahead of time, featuring iconic tracks like “Yellow” and “Paradise.” The singers will also perform songs for their loved ones in honor of Mother’s Day.

Casey Bishop: “Paradise”

Chayce Beckham: “Magic”

Grace Kinstler: “Hymn for the Weekend”

Hunter Metts: “Everglow”

Martin will help the contestants prepare for their performances. Coldplay will also take the stage during the episode to perform their new song “Higher Power,” which was released on Friday. The music video for the track shows the band performing with dancing holograms around them.

The band reportedly premiered the song in space while communicating with French ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet, who is currently on the International Space Station.

When Is Coldplay’s New Album Being Released?

Following the release of their new song “Higher Power,” Coldplay hinted that a new album is coming, although they haven’t shared a release date yet. It would be their ninth studio album, and their first one in two years, following 2019’s Everyday Life.

“We’re not supposed to say. But there won’t not be one,” Martin said during an appearance on the radio show Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp. Bandmate Jonny Buckland added that they’ve recorded more songs.

American Idol Coldplay Night will air live coast-to-coast at 8 p.m. ET Sunday night on ABC. Voting will be open starting at the beginning of the show, and the competition will be narrowed down to the Top 5 finalists at the end of the night. Get ready to vote for your favorites during the show.
