Dancing with the Stars is expected to return later this year for Season 35, which means a whole new cast of celebrities will be entering the ballroom. Some stars have expressed interest in joining the show, while others have said they’d rather not. Who might be on the cast list this year?
Celebrities Interested in Joining Dancing with the Stars
TV Insider recently shared a list of celebrities who have expressed interest in joining DWTS for a future season. While there’s no guarantee that any of them will be featured in Season 35’s cast, we certainly won’t rule any of them out.
Notably, Jenna Dewan recently told GMA of potentially entering the ballroom, “Because I love dance so much and I miss it so much, I just already know myself, and it would be one of those really hard things to say no to.” Olympic ice dancing duo Madison Chock and Evan Bates also expressed interest, with Chock telling Live with Kelly & Mark, “I think we should trade our skates for some ballroom shoes.”
Similarly, Olympic figure skater Amber Glenn said in a chat with DWTS Season 26 winner Adam Rippon that competing on the show is on her “post-Olympics bucket list.” Meanwhile, The Traitors Season 4 star Maura Higgins recently told The Hollywood Reporter, “It’d be a huge challenge, but I know I’d throw myself into it and all the looks and glitter.”
Other stars who have recently expressed interest in competing on the show include NFL star Rob Gronkowski, Vanderpump Rules alum Brittany Cartwright, Zooptopia actress Ginnifer Goodwin, High School Musical actor Bart Johnson, Savannah Bananas baseball player Jackson Olson, reality star Gia Giudice, Dance Moms alum Nia Sioux, and Love Island alum Nic Vansteenberghe,
Marvel star Simi Liu told ETlast year, “I think about it, like, at least once a week.” Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and The Bachelorette star Taylor Frankie Paul also seems interested in following in the footsteps of her co-stars Whitey Leavitt and Jen Affleck — who competed last season.
Dancing with the Stars isn’t for everyone. Some celebrities have made it clear that they’re not interested in competing on the show. That includes Terri Irwin, mother of DWTS champions Bindi Irwin and Robert Irwin. Robert told The Hollywood Reporterthat his mom “is firmly like, ‘Nope, I’m not doing it. That’s not for me.'” He still hopes to “wear her down and get her on there.”
Last year, Kevin Jonas shared that he has turned down offers to compete on the show a number of times, saying, “It’s just not for me.” However, he added that he watches the show and enjoys it. Other famous names who have reportedly turned the show down in the past include Lauren Conrad, Lindsay Lohan, Demi Moore, Gabby Douglas, Gayle King, John Stamos, and Rosie O’Donnell.
When Olympic figure skater Alysa Liu was recently asked by Access Hollywoodif she would join DWTS on a future season, she answered, “No, I don’t think so.” In another interview, she said she “wouldn’t be against it,” but when asked which pro she’d want to dance with she said, “See, that’s the only thing, I don’t want to dance with someone.”
Meanwhile, Flavor Flav, who appeared as a guest judge during Season 34 of the show, seems to fall somewhere in the middle. He told People that the show wants him “to come back and dance” and added of his interest, “I don’t know. I might do it if I think I could do it.” When asked if he thought he’d do well, he answered, “No, no, I don’t.”
