Val Chmerkovskiy Shares Diagnosis After Missing Tour
On Sunday, Chmerkovskiy took to Instagram to share that he would have to miss a show in Peoria, Illinois, as he was dealing with vertigo. The dancer explained that he had been “spinning everywhere,” adding that he would hopefully be back on stage for Tuesday’s stop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
On Tuesday, Chmerkovskiy returned to Instagram with an update for fans, sharing that he had been diagnosed with BPPV, or Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. According to the Mayo Clinic, this condition “causes brief periods of mild to intense dizziness” and is “rarely serious.”
In his video, Chmerkovskiy said the diagnosis is not “too bad,” adding that “there’s no tumor in my brain, God forbid.” He also said that the BPPV is “not related to my neck injury.” The dancer shared that he felt “a lot better” and would be “back in the show tonight.”
Chmerkovskiy explained that the DWTS physical therapist was “certified in getting those crystals back and doing the Epley maneuver,” which treats the symptoms of BPPV. He said he was “still a little fuzzy here and there, but good enough to perform.”
