It was recently reported that Dancing with the Stars will have a spin-off series called The Next Pro, in which the show attempts to find a new pro dancer to join next season’s cast. Is this a bad sign for some of the show’s longtime pros?
Dancing with the Stars Spin-Off to Find Next Pro
Last week, it was reported that DWTS has a spin-off series in the works to find a new pro. Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas is apparently attached as a judge, alongside her son and on-and-off DWTS pro Mark Ballas. Season 34 winner Robert Irwin is apparently in talks to host the show.
The third judging slot is expected to be rotating, with a new person filling the seat each week. Dancing with the Stars: The Next pro is expected to stream this summer on Hulu, with the winning dancer joining Season 35 of the show in the fall.
An official announcement of the series has yet to be made, as Deadline reports that deals are still in the works. However, the new report has gotten fans talking, as some wonder what it might mean for the show’s existing pro dancers.

What Do Current Pros Think of the New Show?
Last week, a DWTS fan account on Instagram posted news about the upcoming spin-off show, including a photo of pro dancers Val Chmerkovskiy and Jenna Johnson. Chmerkovskiy actually commented on the post, writing, “Why my pic tho.”
A fan in the comments speculated about what this new show might mean for current pros, writing, “That means a few of them are retiring.” Another commenter added, “or leaving to be with family. Most of the pros don’t have family in LA or the basin.”
Fans also discussed the situation on Reddit, with one user mentioning the show’s recent announcement of a convention on Good Morning America. As they wrote, “I honestly think one reason the big announcement on GMA wasn’t this show is because maybe the pros aren’t thrilled about it.”
