Reading Time: 2 minutes

The two most famous American Idol winners of all time, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, recently sat down for a virtual chat on Kelly’s talk show. And obviously they had to talk about the experience of the show.

While most of the interview focused on Carrie’s new Christmas album My Gift, as well as her relationship with husband Mike Fisher, they still took a moment to discuss Carrie’s jitters before auditioning for Idol.

Carrie Underwood Talks About ‘American Idol’ Experience

“I don’t think that people would be happy with us if we don’t at least mention American Idol,” Kelly said during the interview. “I actually find this amazing. Is it true that you almost didn’t audition?”

Carrie explained that she was nervous about going to Hollywood by herself, as she had never even been on a plane before. “It was very unlike me to just go for it, and it was scary,” she said. “So I definitely had a moment of, ‘What am I doing?’ Like, it’s easier to stay home. But I wouldn’t be doing anything I’m doing now.”

Carrie previously said that her mother was a huge support for her when she wasn’t sure whether to go through with the audition. She also shared that she kept journals of her time on American Idol. Maybe she’ll publish a book about it someday?

While rumors have occasionally swirled about Kelly and Carrie not getting along, they’ve been nothing but nice to each other over the years. In fact, both of the singers shot down feud rumors last year on Twitter.

Carrie Talks About Her Marriage To Mike Fisher

Kelly congratulated Carrie on her 10-year anniversary with husband Mike Fisher. Carrie shared that they met through friends, and she put him in a meet-and-greet at her concert for them to be introduced.

“We have a good partnership,” she said of their lasting relationship. When one of them is working, the other supports them. She also added that they’re not good at doing date nights. “Just trying to take some time whenever you can.”

Carrie and Mike have two kids together — 5-year-old Isaiah and 1-year-old Jacob. The singer recently performed a duet of “Little Drummer Boy” with Isaiah for her Christmas album.

She shared that she would support her son if he wanted to have a career in music when he’s older. “But whatever his path is,” she added, “I feel like we’ll support it and just want him to give it his all.”
