American Idol has shared a new promo for Season 23, focused on Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood’s return to the show as a judge. Underwood will be taking the seat formerly occupied by longtime judge Katy Perry.

The new promo intercuts footage of Underwood entering her first audition for American Idol with her entering the audition room as a judge. In the new clips, she even wears a pink dress to match the shirt she wore in her audition.
“I can’t believe it. Twenty years ago, I was standing on a stage just like this one,” Underwood tells her fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, as well as host Ryan Seacrest.
Bryan comments that “the power of American Idol” turned her from a contestant into a judge on the show. Seacrest then asks Underwood if she’s ready to “change some lives together,” to which she replies, “Let’s do this.”
The promo also includes footage from the upcoming Season 23 auditions, with the judges sharing their praise for various contestants. The new season will premiere Sunday, March 9, on ABC, and streaming on Hulu.

The Judges Recently Handed Out a Platinum Ticket
Production on Season 23 of American Idol began earlier this year, as the judges started watching auditions from hopefuls around the country. They’re sure to hand out plenty of Golden Tickets to Hollywood, as well as a few Platinum Tickets.
The Platinum Ticket was introduced in Season 20. Similar to the Golden Buzzer on America’s Got Talent, the Platinum Ticket allows a contestant to skip part of the competition. Last season, Platinum Ticket recipient Abi Carter went on to win the show.
One of this season’s Platinum Tickets was handed out last month at a Tennessee Titans football game. We’ll have to wait until the new season starts to hear the performance that earned this singer the honor.
