Cam Anthony performed Cynthia Erivo’s “Stand Up,” the theme from the movie Harriet during the two-night finale on The Voice. The 19-year-old Team Blake singer read a moving letter beforehand to call for social change.
Cam Anthony Steals the Show with Emotional Performance on ‘The Voice’
Cam’s letter spoke about how he hopes that “peace, love, and equality for all are at the foundation of our existence.” He wants everyone to focus on “being free of societal pressures.” That’s the main reason why he decided to perform “Stand Up” and encourages those around him to stand up with him.
This proved to be an incredible song choice for the talented frontrunner who sounded pitch-perfect. The production behind this performance was phenomenal and Cam was joined by a group of dancers up on stage. The performance was so touching and emotionally charged that it humbled Blake Shelton. It’s not easy to get Shelton to be serious for a moment, let alone a couple of minutes.
“On my 20th season, God put this young man in my life on The Voice that may change everything for this show,” Shelton said. “I want people out there to know that the only thing bigger than Cam’s talent is his heart and his mind.”
Cam’s performances tonight solidified that he should walk away with the prize during the second part of tomorrow’s finale results show. The other coaches were just as moved as Shelton and were in awe of the flawless performance.
“Cam you are just so ready for this stage, you’re ready for any stage you want to be on,” John Legend said. “It’s just incredible, watching you up here.”
During his second performance of “Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi, Cam shocked the coaches with his song choice. He went more of a rocker route but the risk proved to be worth it. He totally made his coach proud once again.
“There are people who are born with talent, and then there are people who are born with whatever you were born with,” Shelton said. “We all know what it is that we’re witnessing here, congratulations, Cam. You’re a star, man.”
