Blake Shelton Saves Lana Scott: “I Was Never Gonna Let You Go”
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Blake Shelton admitted that he had to choose who could handle a 30 second heartbreak better after this battle. He knew from the moment that Lana Scott and Hailey Green began singing on The Voice stage that he wasn’t going to let either of their talents go to any other team. He couldn’t bear to be without either of these singers on his team.
Shelton Knew He Wanted to Keep Both Singers
Lana and Hailey took to The Voice stage to sing “GIRL” by Maren Morris. Lana’s higher pitch accompanied Hailey’s lower register very well. This was seriously a great pair, they did a great job complementing each others’ individual voice. This is one of those moments where Shelton’s experience on The Voice really shows.
Both singers received good notes from all of the coaches, but Hailey ultimately stunned them more than Lana. They were a really great pair but Shelton ended up choosing Hailey as the winner of the battle. He pointed out how both of these singers are total opposites before making his deicison.
Lana told Shelton that she was thankful for her time on Shelton’s team… but she didn’t realize what was coming next. Shelton hit his buzzer for Lana, way before any of the other coaches could hit to steal. He literally yelled at her to get her butt back on to the stage as soon as she was saved by him.
“The only decision I had to make was who I thought could handle the 30 second broken heart better,” said Shelton. “So I was never gonna let you go.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if Shelton had planned this save considering he knew the talented singers he put against each other. It seems like this pairing was definitely a game tactic. He wanted the other coaches to think they had a chance to get one of his most talented singers, but they couldn’t.
