“Back in the day I wanted this song to be a single so bad I put it on 2 different albums,” Shelton wrote in the caption of his new video. “We never got to it and I still regret it. Thought I’d dig it out for y’all. It’s called ‘I Don’t Care.'”
In the clip, Shelton wears a backwards baseball cap and strums a guitar, showing off a heartfelt vocal performance. The song is about seeing a former lover with someone new and reminding yourself that you shouldn’t care.
“I don’t care / She don’t matter / I don’t love her anymore, he can have her,” Shelton sings in the chorus. “I don’t know why it slips my mind / I tell myself all the time / Guess I forgot again for a second there / That I don’t care.”
This song first appeared on Shelton’s 2007 album, Pure BS. He later also included it on his 2008 release Startin’ Fires. However, the song was never released as a single like Shelton wanted it it to be.

Fans Loved Hearing the New Performance
Fans gushed about Shelton’s performance in the comments. Some of them were familiar with the song, while others hadn’t heard it before. One Instagram user wrote, “One of my favorites and gets me every time I hear it!!”
Others suggested that Shelton should release a new version of the song, perhaps an acoustic rendition like he performed on Instagram. Another fan told Shelton they would love to hear him sing the song at his concerts.
Even The Voice host Carson Daly chimed in, saying he prefers the version of the song on Startin’ Fires. However, he called the new acoustic version “killer” and added, “The story, lyrics & your voice hit home waaay more now than back then. Release it this way & see if 3rd time’s a charm.”
