Gwen Stefani Finally Explains Why Carson Daly Officiated Her Wedding to Blake Shelton
Gwen Stefani stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live this week to chat about her wedding to Blake Shelton, which was officiated by The Voice host Carson Daly. Stefani also talked about her first rodeo experience and her new makeup line.
Gwen Stefani Talks About Wedding to Blake Shelton
Kimmel showed off a photo of Stefani, Shelton, and Daly at last year’s nuptials. He shared that he’s actually known Daly since Daly was 12 years old. Daly and Stefani don’t go back quite that far, but they met when he was hosting TRL on MTV.
Daly has been hosting The Voice since the beginning, just like Shelton has never skipped a season as a coach. Stefani said she had the idea for Daly to officiate because he’s “the one person that we both know so well.”
Daly is also Catholic, and he even considered becoming a priest at one point. Stefani said she wanted the wedding to be “serious,” and officiated by “someone that is in our spiritual circle.” In fact, it was Daly who encouraged the couple to write their own vows.
Stefani procrastinated writing them, but said they “turned out amazing.” Little did she know that Shelton had written an entire song for her. Kimmel joked that now that Shelton put the song out, it “paid for the wedding.”
Stefani Talks About Going Country
Kimmel pointed out that Stefani has adopted more country style from Shelton than Shelton has adopted Stefani’s style from her. In fact, the singer wore blue cowboy boots to their interview, paired with some classic checkerboard print.
“I don’t see him in black checkered Vans,” Kimmel joked. “I don’t see him with a little derby and a skinny black tie. I would like to.”
Stefani said the country lifestyle is something she “didn’t know I was missing.” She’s even started playing at rodeos. The singer was amazed at how many people showed up, and recalled that there was “livestock at my soundcheck.”
The interview closed with a discussion of Stefani’s new makeup line, GXVE. Kimmel asked Stefani to apply her red lipstick on him. She warned him that it’s long-wearing, and it might take a while to get off. After putting it on, she told him that it looked “really good.”
