Blake Shelton Makes Fun of Ariana Grande for Crying on ‘The Voice’
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Blake Shelton stopped by The Tonight Show this week to talk to host Jimmy Fallon about the current season of The Voice. And knowing Shelton, it’s no surprise that he took the time to drag his fellow coaches Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande, as well as former coach Adam Levine.
Blake Shelton Thinks Kelly Clarkson Is the ‘Second-Worst Coach’
It all started when Fallon told Shelton that he thinks he might win The Voice this year. Shelton was shocked that Fallon would say something so nice, and he asked if he was serious about it. Fallon responded, “No, I think Kelly’s gonna win this year.”
Fallon said he’s a fan of Girl Named Tom, and Shelton admitted that they’re a great band, but he added, “The only thing I worry about with that particular group is that they’re on Kelly’s team. While Kelly is a great person and an incredible artist and a great talk show host, she is hands down the worst coach we’ve ever had on The Voice.”
“More than Adam?” wondered Fallon, of course referring to Shelton’s bestie Adam Levine, who left the show in 2019. That gave Shelton pause, and he eventually amended his statement about Clarkson, saying, “She is the second-worst coach we’ve ever had.”

Shelton Makes Fun of Coach Ariana Grande for Crying
Fallon also asked Shelton how new coach Ariana Grande is doing with her first season on The Voice. Shelton said, “She’s a little shaky, honestly. She’s having a tough time emotionally with this thing.”
It’s true that Grande has been very emotional during the live results this season, as she cries over her artists being up for elimination. Shelton joked that when one of Grande’s artists goes home, he has to remind her that “they didn’t send them to the alligator pit.”
One The Voice coach Shelton didn’t criticize was his wife Gwen Stefani, who made a brief appearance during his video chat with Fallon. She could be seen dancing and waving her arms in the background, as pointed out by Fallon. As Shelton remarked, “It’s almost as if she’s a regular human being back there.”
