On Monday night’s new episode of American Idol, the Top 10 was revealed for Season 20. The remaining contestants are headed to Disneyland next week, where they’ll be mentored by Dear Evan Hansen star Ben Platt.
Ben Platt to Mentor ‘American Idol’ Disney Night
Platt will appear on American Idol this coming Sunday, May 1. The new episode will feature the show’s traditional Disney Night, as the remaining hopefuls visit Disneyland and perform songs from Disney movies.
Platt is known for his title role in the Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen, for which he won a Tony Award. He starred in the film adaptation of the musical last year. Platt has also released two albums, including the 2021 release Reverie.
E! News points out that Platt has experience singing Disney songs, as he performed “A Whole New World” with Idina Menzel in the 2020 ABC special The Disney Family Singalong: Volume II. Menzel herself was a past mentor on Idol‘s Disney Night.
Platt has also performed on America’s Got Talent and appeared on Songland in 2020.

The Show Has Featured Several Celebrity Mentors This Season
In-house mentor Bobby Bones is sitting this season out, but the American Idol Season 20 contestants have gotten plenty of advice from a host of celebrity mentors throughout the competition. That includes several former contestants such as Jordin Sparks and Lauren Alaina.
The Top 24 performed in Hawaii after receiving feedback from Jimmie Allen and Bebe Rexha. During Sunday night’s Top 14 show, former finalist Gabby Barrett acted as mentor to the singers while they prepared their performances.
And of course, the contestants always have judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan giving them advice. On Monday night, they even chose the artists’ songs in the first-ever Judge’s Song Contest, which Perry and Bryan tied to win.
