As you probably already know, The X Factor UK has a whole new group of judges this season. With the additions of Louis Tomlinson, Robbie Williams, and Ayda Field, the only judge who remains from last season is the show’s executive producer, Simon Cowell. And they shelled out a pretty penny for all these new judges too. But was Ayda the convincing factor in getting Robbie Williams on the judging panel? According to a recent interview with him, yes!
First of all, it’s worth noting that Simon Cowell has been asking Robbie Williams to join The X Factor UK for many years. He has made no secret of that fact! And it makes sense. Robbie is clearly very talented and well-liked in the UK, plus he has had quite the music career there. In addition to that, Simon has already had the pop singer perform during the live shows multiple times.
But recently, in an interview leading up to this season’s premiere, Robbie was asked what finally made him decide to jump on board. He responded:
“Genuinely, it was the Ayda card. Genuinely.”
After much speculation that Ayda was joining the show only to get her husband on the panel as well, it is now confirmed! Initially, many fans were confused and upset when her name was announced, but this all makes sense. Though she has no judging experience, I agree that it’s probably worth it to have her on to get Robbie. His expertise will be second-to-none. And I personally am excited to see their on-screen chemistry together!
Later, elaborating on his wife’s offer, Robbie said:
“You know, I thought about doing it often but I have been really really busy with my own career. And then Ayda got a call in the car from Nigel, the producer of the show, and [he] said, ‘Do you think Rob will do it if you do too?’ And instantly, I was like that makes complete sense. I’m totally in.”
Well, that was easy enough! It’s clear to see the way to Robbie was through his wife. Can we all just admit that Simon knows how to get what he wants? And now, we don’t have to wait much longer to see them on the judging panel either! The new season of The X Factor UK starts this Saturday, September 1st.
