‘AGT’ Recap: Season 21 Continues as Judges Fight Over Golden Buzzer

 |  3 min read

America’s Got Talent Season 21 returned on Tuesday night for another episode of auditions. Two acts earned the Golden Buzzer during the show, as the judges and even host Terry Crews fought over who should do the honors.

Judges Fight Over AGT Golden Buzzer as Season 21 Continues

The first Golden Buzzer of the night went to singer Lara D, who wowed with a powerhouse rendition of “Oscar Winning Tears” by RAYE, earning a standing ovation from the AGT judges. Howie Mandel said she was the “kind of thing that I’ve been looking for.”

Mandel stood up, clearly intending to press the Golden Buzzer for Lara. However, fellow judge Sofia Vergara reached over to do the honors before he could get there, so it was technically her Golden Buzzer. Mandel complained that she stole it, but Vergara was unapologetic as she ran up to hug Lara.

Later in the episode, Korean magician Yu Hojin took the stage. You might remember him from Season 17 of the show, as well as AGT: Fantasy League. This time, he’s performing as part of a group called Hundred Fingers.

The stylish audition featured the performers showing off some jaw-dropping tricks involving playing cards. The judges were wowed, especially Howie Mandel, who was actually successful in pressing the Golden Buzzer this time, calling it the “best magic act I’ve ever seen.” Unfortunately, host Terry Crews didn’t make it to the stage fast enough to do the honors himself.

What Other Acts Impressed the Judges?

Only two acts earned the Golden Buzzer during Tuesday’s show, but that doesn’t mean the judge weren’t impressed by other auditions. That includes teenage brothers Nyjah & Zyah, who wowed with their original song “Heartbeat” and earned four “yes” votes. Meanwhile, impressionist Rynia Kando earned three “yes” votes with her impersonations of various celebrities stubbing their toes.

Married couple Brad & Tracy totally shocked the judges with their danger act, as Brad nailed a wooden board to his nose, lay down on broken glass, swallowed several swords, and swung a heavy anchor from his nose and throat. Sofia Vergara called it “one of the weirdest, weirdest things I’ve ever watched on AGT.” The couple earned three “yes” votes to move on.

Another couple who impressed the judges during Tuesday’s show was Holland & Sienna, who performed an aerial routine. Although there were a few stumbles (such as knocking into the signs on the stage and Sienna’s dress ripping), their dangerous moves still wowed the panel. Simon Cowell called it “one of the best aerial acts we’ve seen.” They earned four “yes” votes to move on.

Magician Geno Ploeger, who interned with past winner Mat Franco, also impressed the judges by telling the story of his life through playing cards. Meanwhile, singer Cesar Dias ended the show with some hilarious physical comedy as he performed “My Way” by Frank Sinatra. Both acts earned four “yes” votes from the panel.
