‘America’s Got Talent’ Teases First-Ever Group Golden Buzzer

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Something new is coming to America’s Got Talent Season 16 that has never been done before on the show. In a brand new first look ahead of the June 1 premiere, it appears that the judges and host Terry Crews will be awarding one act a very special Golden Buzzer.

All of the ‘America’s Got Talent’ Judges and Terry Crews Team Up to Give Out a Golden Buzzer

“We’re going to do something we’ve never done,” Simon Cowell says in the new trailer.

Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, and Crews all join Cowell in pressing the Golden Buzzer together. For the first time ever, it looks like everyone agrees that a sixth Golden Buzzer should be given out to one of the contestants.

In a different clip, Crews hits his own Golden Buzzer for an act. This indicates that each judge will also get their own separate Golden Buzzers along with the group buzzer.

The first look opens up with all four judges standing on stage dancing and clapping their hands in excitement for Season 16. Cowell gets an A for effort for his awkward dancing skills (rocking those shorts that shook Crews.)

“This year is sweeter than its ever been because of the year that everybody has been through,” Mandel says.

Who Will Get the Big Golden Buzzer?

The trailer then highlights one act that we think will go very far in the competition, singer Ray Singleton. Ray’s wife Ros is a two-time cancer survivor. The couple made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about Ros’s cancer journey.

“Who you are is why she’s well today,” Mandel comments as Ray takes the stage.

Waiting in the wings, Ros can be seen crying backstage watching her husband perform. In the past, we have seen so many incredible singers get the Golden Buzzer. Ray is certainly a contender for this new group buzzer honor.

Another act that we think could get the big group Golden Buzzer is the Northwell Health Nurse Choir who have been on the frontlines throughout the entire COVID-19 pandemic. One of the nurses is seen crying on the stage in the trailer.

“The overriding tone is we got through it and now doing the show means more than anything else,” Cowell says.

Klum also teased that America’s Got Talent Season 16 will begin this summer, but will go on a little bit of a break due to the Summer Olympics airing on NBC.

“The Olympics creates superstars and ‘AGT’ has done the exact same thing,” Crews added.

America’s Got Talent Season 16 premieres June 1 on NBC.
