‘America’s Got Talent’ Cast Welcomes Back Simon Cowell in Hilarious New Video
Last year, a terrifying electric bike accident left Simon Cowell with a broken back and fans were unsure what the future would look like for the 61-year-old mogul. After multiple surgeries and months of rehab, he is returning to television with this season of America’s Got Talent. This week, the AGT judges released a special video welcoming Cowell back to the show.
After the accident, Cowell faced a six-hour surgery to insert a metal rod into his back to correct the three breaks. According to doctors, the break occurred just one centimeter from his spinal cord. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, he was not allowed visitors, and only had brief contact with family, but seemed to remain in high spirits, even releasing a statement on social media:
“Some good advice… If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time,” he wrote. “I have broken part of my back. Thank you to everyone for your kind messages.”
Cowell Returns to ‘AGT’ With Big Welcome From the Cast
After the frightening year, we now know that Cowell will return to America’s Got Talent with the rest of the judges, much to the delight of fans. Despite an early announcement that he would return, speculation over Cowell’s health, plus the ongoing concern of Covid-19, has created a cloud of worry surrounding the show’s premiere.
Putting us all at ease, the AGT cast released a compilation video yesterday in which they all explain Cowell’s accident and welcome him back in their individual (hilarious) styles.
“They rebuilt him!” proclaims fellow judge Howie Mandel. “They opened him up and they put some steel in! They put some screws and nuts and all this stuff in his back.”
Judges Heidi Klum, Mandel, and Sofia Sofia Vergara have all been seriously active on social media the past month while promoting the show. Yet Cowell has been more quiet than usual. Despite this silence, the cast seems to think Cowell will come back better than ever.
“He’s wearing shorts!” says Crews. “He’s not only back, he’s flaunting!”
A First Glimpse Into this Season Confuses Fans
Over the weekend, we finally got a sneak peak into this season’s full team vibe when Mandel posted a selfie along with the caption:
Fans were quick to point out that Cowell looks extremely off in the photo. Some even speculated that he might be a cardboard cutout as he leans back into a couch looking less than excited to be included.
Hopefully, it’s just an awkward angle and Cowell will perk up in the next few weeks. America’s Got Talent returns for Season 16 on June 1 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
