Three days after breaking his back and undergoing a six-hour surgery, Simon Cowell is already making strides in the recovery process. As part of his rehab, Simon has started to walk again. The star fell off of an electric bike at his Malibu home on Saturday, leaving his appearance on the rest of this season of America’s Got Talent up in the air.
Simon Cowell Is Walking Again After Horrific Accident
Simon is still at the hospital after his surgery and had a metal rod placed in his back. He suffered three separate breaks in his back. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Simon is not allowed to have visitors so his six-year-old son Eric has yet to see him. Hospitals are limiting visitors in order to slow the spread of the virus. He has been able to use his iPad to do some work. Prior to the surgery, Simon was able to briefly see girlfriend Lauren Silverman and use his iPad then as well. Lauren has been sitting outside of the hospital in her car due to these restrictions. Simon first addressed his injury on social media saying “Some good advice… If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time,” he wrote. “I have broken part of my back. Thank you to everyone for your kind messages.”
Doctors said that the part of his back that he broke was just one centimeter from hitting his spinal cord. If he had broken his spinal cord he could’ve ended up paralyzed for life, or dead. A spokesperson for Simon told the Mirror that he is “under observation and is doing fine” after the surgery.
Will Simon Return To ‘AGT’ Sooner?
At first, people speculated that the caliber of injury that Simon has can take anywhere from eight to 10 weeks to recover. But, with him already up and walking, is his return to America’s Got Talent on the horizons? The live shows started this week, and Kelly Clarkson was announced as the fill-in judge for Simon. She joined the other judges on Tuesday to watch the performances at Universal Studios in California. She will be joining the judges on Wednesday night for the results show. Knowing the producers, Simon may make a small appearance virtually just like Heidi Klum did when she was sick at the beginning of the season in the coming episodes.
So far, Kelly has only announced she would be involved in the first week of live shows and nothing further. But there could be a possibility she could sign on for longer should Simon need more time to recover off camera. We originally suspected Simon would be involved in the show either virtually or in-person in a wheelchair at some point in the season. Though now, he seems to be powering through this injury and recovering way faster than originally expected.
We hope Simon can return to ‘AGT’ at some point soon. We do have to commend Kelly for being such a great judge and offering the contestants such meaningful advice and praise.
