‘American Idol’ Winner Fantasia Barrino Opens Up About Fertility Struggles After Announcing Pregnancy

Fantasia Barrino shot to fame after winning season three of American Idol. She married her husband Kendall Taylor five years ago and the two were eager to start a family. The couple opened up on The Tamron Hall Show about going through fertility struggles for three years before announcing she was pregnant with their first child together.

Fantasia Barrino Suffered Fertility Issues For 3 Years Before Getting Pregnant

Fantasia is already a mother to two children from previous relationships, Dallas Xavier, 9, and Zion Quari, 19. Kendall also has a son from a previous relationship. But having a baby together has been a long and emotional journey. Doctors encouraged the couple to go through the IVF process or artificial insemination after they struggled to get pregnant.

“At first we thought we were going to have to do different things like everybody was suggesting IVF because it wasn’t happening,” Fantasia said. “This is a three-year journey we’ve been on. And then we went back in and I found out that one of my tubes was closed, we went back and then she says ‘Well now that one’s open the other ones closed.'” They decided to stop trying and just see what would happen.

Finally, a miracle happened when Fantasia took a bunch of pregnancy tests that turned out to be positive. “I was just like, ‘Forget it,’ and then I woke up one night and when I was just like, ‘Something’s different,’ took the test, I took six tests. I was like ‘Oh, just try it,’ and sure enough, I threw the test at him I was so excited.”

Fantasia And Kendall Announced The Pregnancy Back In November

Fantasia announced the pregnancy to her fans during an Instagram Live session in late November. She opened up about how it was not such an easy road trying to conceive but offered some advice. “Keep trying, and you will conceive,” she said.

Kendall excitedly kissed her baby bump during the Instagram Live. “Listen to me, a little Taylor baby on the way in these streets,” he said. She gifted him with a Dior diaper bag which he flaunted to the camera as they gushed over their baby news.

The 36 year old recently posted a photo cradling her growing baby bump in a chic yellow dress. The comments section on the post flooded with congratulations and well wishes for the couple who have wanted this for years.

Fantasia and Kendall only knew each other for three weeks before tying the knot in 2015. She was working on the Broadway show After Midnight when the pair were introduced.

“Every day, I would put up on index cards what I was looking for and what I wanted,” she told People Magazine. “Everything I had on my wall, Kendall was that. He was a praying man, he was a smart man, he was a man with a story, he was a man with a past, he was going somewhere, I saw the king in him and he saw the queen in me.”
