Alicia Keys Nominated for BET HER Award — Will She Perform?
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Former The Voice coach Alicia Keys is nominated at this year’s BET Awards. Her song “So Done,” featuring Khalid, is up for the 2021 BET HER Award.
The singer is up against some great artists in the category. Keys’ performance at last year’s show was a highlight, but will she be taking the stage this year as well?
Alicia Keys Nominated for BET Her Award
Keys is nominated in the BET HER category with Brandy, Bri Steves, Chloe x Halle, Ciara, and SZA. She was also nominated last year, for the song “Underdog.” However, Beyoncé walked away with that award, for her song “Brown Skin Girl.”
“So Done” was released last August, and appears on Keys’ seventh studio album, Alicia. Keys said working with Khalid on the song was “super amazing,” calling the experience “pure energy and pure light.” In the uplifting song, the artists sing, “I’m living the way that I want.”
Fans who are looking forward to watching Keys perform at this year’s show might be disappointed, though. The singer is not listed among this year’s performers. However, it would be awesome to see her show up with a surprise performance during the show.

Keys Delivered a Moving Performance at Last Year’s Event
Last year, Keys performed her song “Perfect Way to Die” during the BET Awards, paying tribute to victims of police brutality. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Keys didn’t perform on a stage, instead sitting outside at her piano. At one point, she was surrounded by even more pianos with no players.
The performance was intimate and emotional, sending a powerful message. One YouTube commenter wrote, “Is it me or the BET awards is better this year virtually than live performances on stage.”
This year, the show will once again have a live audience. Audience members were required to be vaccinated in order to attend. You can watch the show on Sunday, June 27, at 8/7c on BET. Check out the full list of nominees here.
