‘The Voice’ Runner-Up Addison Agen Releases Dreamy Debut Album
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Addison Agen, who came in second place in Season 13 of The Voice, has released her debut full-length album, and it’s the perfect easy listening for summer. Agen is also planning to go on tour starting next month.
The 20-year-old singer competed on both Team Miley Cyrus and Team Adam Levine during her time on The Voice. Agen has described herself as an indie-folk artist who creates “acoustic soul.” Her new album certainly captures that, although the exact genre is hard to pin down.
Addison Agen Releases Debut Album
Agen’s album When the Morning Comes features 12 tracks that show off the singer’s ethereal voice, with a comfortable sound and personal lyrics. The first track, “My Kitchen Floor,” sets the tone for the project, as Agen sings about all the life moments her kitchen floor has seen.
The singer gets a little more bluesy on tracks like “Floating,” which has a Nora Jones feel with a piano accompaniment. A country sound comes out on the album as well, including on the uplifting ballad “Lion,” in which she sings, “I am proud of how far I’ve come.” The song brings to mind “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack.

The bouncy “Darlin'” is another standout, backed by jazzy piano and electric guitar. The album is full of honest lyrics, as Agen sings about everything from getting over an ex (“Over You”) to dreaming about her future family (“I Want to Homeschool My Kids”).
Agen really showcases her strong, emotive voice on the title track, “When the Morning Comes.” She starts off soft and quiet, but gets bigger as the song continues.
In an interview, Agen called the album “a collection of my ideas and my heart and my sound,” adding, “So it’s sort of like it’s a test run of an album to see just what people connect with and see how it goes.”
