‘AGT’ Judge Heidi Klum Gets Real Binoculars to Replace Her Hands

Anyone who watches America’s Got Talent on a regular basis will know that judge Heidi Klum loves to use her hands as binoculars during certain auditions. This week, fellow judge Howie Mandel presented Klum with a gift — a pair of real binoculars.
Howie Mandel Gives Heidi Klum Binoculars on AGT
During Tuesday night’s new episode of AGT Season 17, Mandel announced that he had “a gift for Heidi.” He pulled out a set of fancy gold binoculars — also known as opera glasses. He told her he got them so she doesn’t have to use her hands anymore.
Klum held the binoculars up to her eyes and looked at host Terry Crews on stage. The show gave us what her perspective might look like as Crews waved at her. Klum was shocked, saying, “Oh my God, that’s what you look like?”
Klum posted the clip of herself receiving the gift on Instagram and Twitter later, using an eyes emoji and heart emoji to tell Mandel that she loves him for giving her such a thoughtful gift.

Why Does Klum Use Hand Binoculars?
Heidi Klum often puts her hands up to her eyes in the shape of binoculars when she’s trying to focus on an act that features interesting, close-up details. Obviously this doesn’t actually bring the image any closer, but Klum has said it does help her see what’s happening better.
“People always wonder about my binoculars, but you guys should try this once, and then you’ll see what I mean,” Klum explained in a video last year. “There’s so much light and colors and things going on that it’s sometimes very hard to focus in on the act, so I know that it’s not coming closer to me. I know it’s not a real binocular, so they’re just really to block the light out.”
We’ll have to keep watching this season to find out if Klum continues to use Mandel’s gift, or if she goes back to her tried and true hand method.
