America’s Got Talent very first host, Regis Philbin has sadly passed away aged 88, his family has announced. The US TV host holds more hours on American television that any other personality in history, including his time on AGT the hit talent show. Below is a tribute to Regis Philbin on AGT as well as the full first episode oft he AGT hosted by the TV legend.

First ‘AGT’ Host Regis Philbin Passed Away

TV legend, Regis Philbin has sadly passed away, his family has announced. Philbin has worked on many shows over the years, with an outstanding record of TV appearances from Who Wants To Be A Millionaire to his very own talk show. He even hosted America’s Got Talent‘s very first season.

“For his warmth, his legendary sense of humor, and his singular ability to make every day into something worth talking about. We thank his fans and admirers for their incredible support over his 60-year career and ask for privacy as we mourn his loss,” a family statement issued to People’s Magazine read.


People confirmed that Philbin died of natural causes.

A look back at Regis Philbin’s outstanding 52-year career on television

Regis Philbin was one of America’s biggest figures on television, often called “the hardest working man in show business”. The host was known for the popular talk show, Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee which began back in 1988.

Regis also had an incredible run on a large number of television shows including Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, Crowd Goes Wild and The Joey Bishop Show. Philbin also decided to join forces with America’s Got Talent back in 2006, hosting the show alongside judges, Piers Morgan, Brandy Norwood and David Hasselhoff.

Piers Morgan, who served many years on the talent show paid his tribute to the former host on Twitter this morning.

“Incredibly sad to hear about the death of the great Regis Philbin,’ he wrote. ‘Got to know him when he hosted Season 1 of @agt and he was one of the smartest, funniest, most entertaining & talented TV presenters to ever grace the small screen. Was so kind & generous to me. RIP.”

Rest in peace, Regis.
