America’s Got Talent’s Autistic and Blind Winner Kodi Lee: Where Is He Now?
Last year, singer and pianist Kodi Lee stole America’s hearts and ended up winning Season 14 of America’s Got Talent. We’ll never forget his beautiful voice and amazing piano skills.
His story of being blind and living with autism was also inspiring. But what has Kodi Lee been up to since taking home the top prize? Read on to find out more about Kodi’s journey, and what the 24-year-old has been doing lately.
Kodi Lee’s ‘America’s Got Talent’ Journey
Kodi Lee was joined on stage in his first audition by his mom Tina, who explained that Kodi is blind and autistic. He’s loved music from a young age. For his audition, he played piano and sang “A Song For You” by Donny Hathaway.
Kodi received the Golden Buzzer from judge Gabrielle Union, sending him straight to the live shows. His audition quickly went viral, and America fell in love with him. He went on to perform songs like “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and “Lost Without You.” He even joined Leona Lewis to sing “You Are the Reason” in the finale.
He was eventually named the winner of Season 14 of America’s Got Talent, receiving a $1 million prize and a headlining show in Las Vegas. Kodi is the first blind person and the first known autistic person to win the show.
What Did Kodi Do After Winning ‘AGT’?
In November of last year, Kodi performed a headlining show at the Paris Theater in Las Vegas. America’s Got Talent Live! also featured appearances from Season 14 contestants like Tyler Butler-Figueroa, V. Unbeatable, Ryan Niemiller, and Detroit Youth Choir.
During the engagement, Kodi performed songs he had sung on AGT, as well as a rousing rendition of Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing.” The singer also signed with Simon Cowell’s record label Syco, as well as Columbia, and is working on an album.
Kodi also appeared on the AGT: Champions finale earlier this year, and got to sing with Glee star Lea Michele at the Autism Awareness Gala in Washington, D.C., in November of last year. Before that, he performed at Liberty University’s convocation in Lynchburg, Virginia.
What Has Kodi Been Up To Lately?
During the pandemic, Kodi has had to stick to virtual performances, but he’s been giving fans a lot to enjoy. In April, he posted a parody of the Beatles’ “I Want to Hold Your Hand” to encourage people to wash their hands, as well as a coronavirus-themed version of “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
In June, Kodi and his band performed his first virtual concert, with donations going to the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism. He also performed live on Instagram and Facebook for Memorial Day and Mother’s Day.
Kodi also recently celebrated his 24th birthday, and opened gifts from fans on his YouTube channel. In a channel update video, Kodi’s brother said he’s been busy working on an album, hopefully to be released this year. We can’t wait to hear it!
