Despite receiving numerous criticisms amid her divorce, Sofia Vergara is appeased that news didn’t escalate the split, in a nasty way. The America’s Got Talent judge recently got candid about navigating her separation from Joe Manganiello while the public in watching.
Sofia Vergara Opens Up About Divorce as a Famous Celebrity
In a recent interview on CBS Sunday Morning, the Colombian beauty admitted that she thought the divorce news would be icky at her expense. According to Vergara, she’s completely aware that that part of her life would be known to the public.
“You’re out there [in the public eye] and people know that’s part of being a celebrity,” she said. “I knew it was gonna happen. You can’t hide those things.”
Being a public figure for long, Vergara knew that speculations would be unstoppable. Nevertheless, while the Modern Family star she expected the online backlash, she easily “overcame” that because the media coverage “wasn’t bad.”
“I think, you know, I have to say the press was very respectful and very nice. And I thought that they were gonna invent more things, and you know how it usually is,” she said. “I was surprised and, you know, they, they kind of just said what it was and, and that was it.”
In July 2023, the pair released a joint announcement saying that they’ve made the “difficult decision” to divorce. Soon after, Manganiello filed for divorce from Vergara, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split.
“As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect for our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives,” they wrote.
Since their divorce, however, the two have seemingly moved on from their past romantic connection. Vergara opened her doors for surgeon Justin Saliman, while Manganiello is now dating Caitlin O’Connor.
She Reveals Reason Why They Ended Their Marriage
Vergara also recently spoke with esteemed Spanish newspaper El País to talk about her Netflix series Griselda. Elsewhere in the conversation, the actress revealed the primary reason she decided to part ways with Manganiello.
“I am a recently divorced woman. My marriage broke down because my husband was younger, wanted to have children, and I didn’t want to be an old mom. I feel it’s not fair to the baby,” she said.
For those who may not know, Vergara is 51 years old while Manganiello is 47. In the interview, the actress candidly shared she cannot see herself being a mother anymore.
“That’s not for me anymore. I had a child at 19, and I’m ready to embrace the role of a grandmother, not a mother,” she said.
Vergara shares son Manolo Gonzalez Vergara with her childhood sweetheart Joe Gonzalez. They welcomed Manolo in 1991 after their marriage in 1990.
