Jordan Smith Compares ‘American Song Contest’ to ‘The Voice’

The Voice Season 9 winner Jordan Smith has had an amazing journey on American Song Contest representing his home state of Kentucky. His song “Sparrow” earned a spot in the Semifinals this week. The singer recently compared his experience on both talent shows.
Jordan Smith Compares ‘The Voice,’ ‘American Song Contest’
Smith won The Voice on Adam Levine’s team in 2015. In a red carpet interview with E! News, Smith said the two talent shows are “somewhat similar, but they’re so different.”
“When I was on The Voice, I was out there singing for my life every single week, vying for an opportunity at my dream,” Smith said. “And with this show, the huge moment for me is being able to stand on that stage and represent the people who have made me who I am.”
Smith said the residents of Kentucky “are a huge part of the reason why I was so successful on The Voice.” He added that he’s using American Song Contest as “an opportunity to share that spotlight and put it on those people that mean so much to me.”

Smith Reacts to Competing Against Superstars
One of the most notable aspects of American Song Contest is that several well-known singers such as Michael Bolton and Macy Gray are up against lesser-known artists. Smith reacted to competing with superstars.
“I was like, ‘Really, guys? Y’all had to do me like that?'” Smith joked. “It’s an interesting dynamic to the show to feature artists that are just starting out and also legacy acts that have been doing this and been in the industry for so many years.”
Smith shared his belief that this “proves that we’re all proud of where we’re from, and we all owe who are to so many different people, so many different places in our lives.” He added that it’s “really cool” that famous artists are also a part of that celebration.
