The Discovery of Sofia Vergara
Sofia Vergara was originally set to pursue a career in dentistry before she was discovered by a fashion photographer on the beach at only 17 years old. The photographer encouraged her to star in a Pepsi advertisement, which paved the way for her lengthy Hollywood career.
From that 1989 Pepsi ad, Sofia has landed multiple modeling jobs. She also hosted in Colombian TV shows and taken micro-opportunities in acting by accepting telenovela roles. Additionally, she became a travel show host of Fuera de Serie, getting a far-reaching exposure within the borders of Latin America and the United States. Such publicity eventually allowed her to continue her profession in USA.
After leaving Colombia, she hosted in a Spanish-language game show entitled ‘A que no te atreves’ (“I Dare You”). From there, Vergara slowly penetrated into American films and TV shows. In 2003, she belonged with the principal cast of the romantic comedy Chasing Papi. Later, she appeared in the action film Four Brothers and the romantic comedy-drama film Meet the Browns in 2008.
These portrayals gave her a respectable reputation in show business, but her big break was still yet to come. Vergara’s big break officially came when she was casted as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the American family sitcom, Modern Family.
Vergara’s Big Break
This actress fortuitously became a part of Modern Family, playing the loud and savage role of Gloria. Airing from 2009 to 2020, Vergara was acclaimed to be the breakout star of the show. She received several Emmy Award nominations while the show was popular.
In between seasons, Sofia acted in various films such as Machete Kills (2013), Hot Pursuit (2015), and Bottom of the 9th (2019). She even tried voice acting in the animated comedy entitled The Emoji Movie (2017).
Sofia continued to cultivate her career as she joined the judging panel of America’s Got Talent in 2020. Since then, she never stopped fascinating audiences with her humor and generosity.
