Zac Efron is not forgetting any second of his High School Musical journey, and The Iron Claw cast is not oblivious of that. The actor recently reflected on the special tribute his co-star Stanley Simons did while they were filming the biographical sports drama film.

Zac Efron Got a Surprise High School Musical Tribute on The Iron Claw Film Set

During The Iron Claw stars’ appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Stanley Simons talked why they did the tribute. Simons played Mike Von Erich (Efron’s on-screen brother) in the sports movie.

“Yeah, I think it would be a disservice to anyone from my generation if I didn’t do something,” he said. “I was playing music, I was fretting about a scene and the night before I learned the chords to ‘Breaking Free,’ and I gave a little rendition in front of Zac.”

Efron, who obviously appreciated the gesture, said that the surprise was well-taken. According to the High School Musical star, the love that people send him because of the famous film series “means the world.”

“It’s so fun. The other day in Hollywood [I got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and] there were so many Wildcat jerseys out. The fans are still out there in full force. It’s fun though because they used to be really young, and now there’s 40 year-old dudes. It’s awesome. I love it,” he said.

In a conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Efron expressed his appreciation for Simons. According to the actor, his co-star “crushed it.”

“Also it worked really well for the characters because I think, it made me embarrassed,” he said. “I was definitely flushed. It worked great, it was hilarious, and I’m gonna get you back for that.”

He Says HSM is “One of the Most Fun Experiences” of His Life

It’s no secret that it was High School Musical that led Efron’s career into stardom. It’s thus not surprising that the Disney film series holds a special place in his heart. In a video with Variety, Efron said his days during HSM comprise his most wonderful experiences.

“The cast and the group of people making that movie was just magical,” Efron said. “There’s a time and a place for everything, and everything happens for a reason, and High School Musical is a prime example of that. I’ve never had so much fun…maybe a few times, but it was still, to this day, maybe one of the most fun experiences of my life, and it just shows on camera.”

In High School Musical, Efron starred alongside Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens, Lucas Grabeel, Monique Coleman, and Corbin Bleu. Originally released in 2006, the movie series was a smash hit that it broke the record for the highest premiere on the Disney Channel at the time.
