Will Arnett Calls ‘9-1-1’ After Natural Disaster Strikes ‘LEGO Masters’
Reading Time: 3 minutes
Things were shaken up this week on LEGO Masters when an earthquake tore through the set and Jennifer Love Hewitt responded to the call. The challenge this week focused on engineering, as the 11 remaining teams had to design towers able to withstand simulated earthquakes. There’s a lot of detail that goes into building such a structure and these brick artists still have to keep aesthetics in mind. With some teams lacking experience in this kind of LEGO building, one team was forced to make a drastic decision.Â
In a shameless cross-promotion, host Will Arnett dials 9-1-1 from his FOX-issued LEGO phone following the crash of a LEGO tower. Answering the call is operator Maddie Buckley, Hewitt’s character from the hit drama. Arnett’s panic is quickly identified as a false alarm, leading us to the introduction of “the Brickter Scale” — the LEGO Masters earthquake machine!Â
LEGO Masters Encounters Some Seismic Activity
In this challenge, the focus was on engineering the right design. To make it more difficult, the towers had to be at least four feet tall and constructed in only eight hours. The completed towers were then gauged on how much seismic activity their structures could withstand, using the Brikter Scale. The teams needed to consider the aesthetic of their tower as well, since appearance would decide any tiebreakers.Â
The teams all had different ideas on how to approach the challenge. Most of the teams relied on LEGO Technic pieces to help support a stronger structure. Some teams used creative solutions like twins Caleb and Jacob, using two layers of LEGO tires to absorb shock. What all the teams shared in common was the pressure of time while scrambling to meet the height requirement.
When the clock struck zero, it was time to put the towers to the test. For brothers Zack and Wayne, holders of the golden brick, the uncertainty in design was too much, forcing them to use it to protect themselves from elimination. Meanwhile Dave and Richard had the best design and solid structure, making them the winners of this week’s challenge.Â
The Brick Masters: Who Was Eliminated?
Unfortunately for twins Caleb and Jacob, confident brothers Mark and Steven, and father/son team of Tim and Zach, their towers toppled the fastest marking them for elimination. Mark and Steven never planned on finding themselves at the bottom so this was a huge defeat. When it came to it, Tim and Zach’s design lacked detail and color making them the bottom team and sending them home.
Zack and Wayne ended up using the golden brick but ended up doing well in the challenge. Using it so early may be a decision they’ll regret since it could be up for grabs in the future. With several weeks still ahead, they’ll be hoping to reclaim the immunity token when it does.
