FOX has finally revealed that longtime competition show, So You Think You Can Dance has officially ended. The show, which last premiered in 2024, will not return anytime soon.
FOX President Confirms So You Think You Can Dance Cancelation
On May 12, 2026, FOX network president Rob Wade confirmed that the show is not returning anytime soon. 2026 marks the second year since the show’s most recent season.
“Obviously, a really important show in the history of Fox, and right now, there’s no plans to order another season,” Wade told reporters, per Variety, referring to the network’s upcoming 2026-2027 television schedule. “We’ve had conversations about it, but nothing formal.”
So You Think You Can Dance has been a big part of FOX’s summer schedule for nearly 20 years. There has been quite a bit of stars to get their start on this series, like Witney Carson, Ariana DeBose, Tate McRae, and more. There even was once a pipeline from So You Think You Can Dance competitors to Dancing With The Stars.
So You Think You Can Dance Reboot Failed Due to Controversies
The FOX president’s statement comes after the network attempted to save the show. The original series premieres from 2005 to 2019, then was paused due to the coronavirus pandemic. The show later returned in 2022 and 2024.
The most recent seasons of the show were a clear attempt to save the reputation of the show, which had taken multiple years off of network television. The reboot of the show featured judges JoJo Siwa, tWitch, and Matthew Morrison on the judging panel.
The 2022 season was met with a ton of controversy. Many longtime fans of the series were upset to see Dance Moms star JoJo Siwa on the panel, saying that she wasn’t experienced enough to be able to judge multiple dance genres. Surprisingly, this wasn’t the biggest controversy of the season. Matthew Morrison was actually ejected from the judging panel mid-season due to his failure to follow “competition production protocols.”
The show then returned to FOX nearly two years later with Siwa returning to the panel, alongside tWitch’s wife Allison Holker and former Dancing With The Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy. tWitch was unable to return to the judging panel due to his unfortunate demise.
Though this season didn’t stir up controversy in the same way, it definitely still was problematic. The show’s creator, Nigel Lythgoe was sued by Paula Abdul for sexual assault during the release of the season. Then, Siwa went on to date not one, but two competitors from the season.
