A Foreign Act Will Likely Win ‘America’s Got Talent Champions’
Season 2 of AGT: The Champions is in full swing, and we’ve already seen several amazing foreign acts take the stage. Some of them competed on Got Talent competitions around the world, while others appeared on AGT, but are originally from other countries.
It has us wondering whether a foreign act can win this season. There are quite a few acts from outside the U.S. who have made it through to the semifinals or even the finals — thanks to the Golden Buzzer. Will they make it to the end?
Why A Foreign Act Win ‘AGT Champions’?
Last year, Canadian-American magician (and former AGT winner) Shin Lim won AGT: The Champions. Runner-up was fellow American (and fellow AGT winner) Darci Lynne Farmer. Third place went to sand artist Kseniya Simonova, from Ukraine.
Can a non-American act make it higher than third place this year, and maybe even win the competition? Let’s take a look at three of the frontrunners for this season, and what their chances are to win.
Angelina Jordan on ‘AGT: Champions’
This 14-year-old singer won Norway’s Got Talent in 2014, and wowed the judges with her unique performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody” in the premiere on Champions. Heidi Klum was so impressed, she hit the Golden Buzzer for Angelina, sending her straight to the finals.
That narrows down Angelina’s competition, but we don’t know if the superfans would have chosen her. Will they vote for her in the finals? Young female singers certainly tend to do well on AGT, so that could work to her advantage.
Marcelito Pomoy on ‘AGT: Champions’
This Filipino singer won Pilipinas Got Talent in 2011. He’s known for his amazing ability to sing in both a male tenor voice and a female soprano voice. This means he can essentially duet with himself. Although the judges were wowed by his preliminary performance on AGT, he didn’t get the Golden Buzzer.
If Marcelito makes it to the finals, he may have an advantage over Angelina Jordan in that he was voted through by the superfans. If the superfans are in charge of choosing the winner, this is a good sign for him.
V. Unbeatable on ‘AGT: Champions’
This dance group from the slums of Mumbai, India, competed on AGT last season, finishing in fourth place. Howie Mandel hit the Golden Buzzer for them in this week’s episode, sending them straight to the finals.
Although they aren’t past winners, V. Unbeatable might have more of an advantage than either Angelina or Marcelito. Not only are they a Golden Buzzer act, but the superfans are more familiar with their past performances. They have less competition and an existing relationship with AGT. This might be their shot at redemption.
It would be amazing to see a foreign act make it to the top this season, especially since AGT: The Champions is all about bringing together acts from around the world.
