Who Is The Lion? ‘The Masked Singer’ Speculation Begins In This Sneak Peek
Reading Time: 2 minutes
American Idol may have blazed a trail for singing competitions, with The Voice and The Four reinventing the concept, but there’s a new show in town and we’ve never seen anything like it. The Masked Singer—based on the Korean show, The King of Mask Singer—is different in that those competing are household names who have already hit the big time, but are decked out head-to-toe in animal costumes leaving it up to to audience and the judges to suss out who’s who.
A preview of the upcoming show features judges Nicole Scherzinger (of The Pussycat Dolls fame), Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, and Robin Thicke shocked, confused, and enthralled by the performance of a lusciously-maned Lion. But who is The Lion really? In terms of clues, host Nick Cannon offers that, “She can definitely sang,” and while the judges have ideas of their own (Spice Girl Mel B? Former Destiny’s Child Michelle Williams?), the people have already spoken. Lady Gaga, Carrie Underwood, and Fifth Harmony’s Dinah Jane are the top picks of Youtube commenters, and that’s before the musical mystery series has even begun!
In addition to the Lion, viewers can look forward to the hidden (I had to!) talents of a Peacock, a Rabbit, a Monster, a Deer, a Unicorn, a Hippo, a Bee, a Poodle, an Alien, a Raven, and a Pineapple as they vie for the title. As a hint, these costumed characters just so happen to have 4 Super Bowl titles, 16 Emmy nominations, and 65 Grammy nominations (not to mention a host of other awards) between them. That’s all well and good, but at the end of the day one question remains: Who is The Lion? Let us know what you think, your guess is as good as mine.
The Masked Singer premieres Wednesday, January 2nd on FOX.
