Watch: ‘The Voice’ Star Christina Grimmie’s Powerhouse Blind Audition
Reading Time: 2 minutes
One of the most beloved contestants in the history of The Voice was Christina Grimmie. The young singer auditioned for the show in 2014, and made it to third place.
Tragically, Christina was murdered in 2016 after a concert in Orlando, Florida. She was just 22 years old when she died. If you haven’t seen her blind audition, or if you just want to relive an incredible performance, watch it below.
Christina Grimmie Auditions For ‘The Voice’
For her blind audition in Season 6 of The Voice, Christina performed “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus. Coaches Usher and Shakira turned around first, followed shortly thereafter by Adam Levine. It took Blake Shelton a little longer, but eventually Christina had four turns.
She showed off an incredible range and a professional stage presence. Christina certainly wasn’t new to the music industry, having started a YouTube channel in 2009 and later opening for Selena Gomez.
Adam called Christina “engaging” and “passionate,” telling her, “You’re more comfortable than I am up there, almost.” He said she could become “a huge star.” Usher said she was “phenomenal.”
Christina ended up choosing Adam as her coach, and she made it all the way to the finals. During her time on the show, she performed songs like “Dark Horse” and “Some Nights.” She placed third, behind winner Josh Kaufman and runner-up Jake Worthington.

Christina’s Tragic Death Devastated Fans
On June 10, 2016, Christina was shot and killed by Kevin James Loibl while signing autographs for fans after a concert in Orlando. Her coach Adam Levine said he was “absolutely devastated and heartbroken,” and offered to pay her funeral costs.
Months before her death, Christina had released an EP called Side A. Her family later released Side B, as well as the posthumous album All Is Vanity in 2017. Other previously recorded songs have been released since Christina’s death, including “Cry Wolf” last September.
The Christina Grimmie Foundation was created to support people affected by gun violence and breast cancer. Christina’s mother Tina passed away of breast cancer in 2018.
Sadly, Christina isn’t the only popular talent show star who has tragically died since their appearance. In the video above, Talent Recap pays tribute to Christina and several other performers who have passed away.
