Scotty McCreery Receives Grand Ole Opry Invitation from Garth Brooks
Brooks walked onto the stage while holding a box decorated with gold wrapping paper and a large red bow. The pair joked around on stage about unwrapping the gift, McCreery then began opening the box.
“Watch out — I got a card in there that I hand-signed myself. Don’t open it. Not till Christmas. Seriously,” Brooks joked.
McCreery responded, stating that he’d do “whatever Garth Brooks says.” Brooks subsequently gave a hint about the surprise, saying that the “gift inside isn’t here yet” as that moment was “merely an invitation.”
Soon after Brooks said the words, the crowd understood what the invitation meant. At that point, McCreery realized what was happening.
“On behalf of the Grand Ole Opry — and this is a Christmas present to the Grand Ole Opry — we would love to invite you to be the newest member of the Opry,” Brooks said.
“Holy cow. Yes, I would love to. I grew up listening to your records Garth and you’re a part of what made me want to do this for a living … I didn’t think that dream would become a reality, but it is because of all of y’all sitting in this house tonight,” McCreery replied. “God bless y’all.”
Holding back his tears, McCreery shared that it’s been his dream to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry since he way young. Now that it’s happening, he can’t help but feel overwhelmed by the good news.
American Idol Alums Congratulate Him Amid the Milestone
Still grateful and in awe of the milestone, McCreery took to Instagram to reflect on the achievement. In the post, the country crooner gushed about how his younger self would be extremely happy to know he’s gone this far.
“Last night was one of the greatest nights of my life. I wish I could tell that 10 year old boy singing The Dance on the edge of his bed at 2 in the morning, that one day @garthbrooks would invite him to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry! Still doesn’t feel real. Thank you @opry, for the honor of a lifetime. Proud to be a part of the family,” he wrote.
In the comments, his fans as well as multiple American Idol alums congratulated him.
“So happy for you Scotty boy! Congrats,” season 10 finalist Hailey Reinhart commented.
“Absolutely incredible. I’m so happy for your journey brother!! Always cheering you on,” season 10 fourth place James Durbin wrote.
In February 2022, Lauren Alaina was inducted into the Opry. She became close friends with McCreery back in season 10.
As of writing, a date for McCreery’s induction into the Opry has not been announced yet.
