According to The Tennessean, Brooks extended the invitation to McCreery during the Opry’s annual “Country Christmas” show on Sunday night. Brooks handed McCreery a wrapped box and told him not to open it until Christmas.
“The gift inside isn’t here yet,” Brooks explained. “Tonight is merely an invitation … On behalf of the Grand Ole Opry — and this is a Christmas present to the Grand Ole Opry — we would love for Scotty McCreery to be the newest member.”
The crowd cheered, and McCreery looked shocked. He reportedly replied to Brooks, “Holy cow. Yes, I would love to.” McCreery told the crowd that he “didn’t think that dream would become a reality.”
On Monday morning, McCreery reposted the clip of his invitation from Brooks on Instagram stories, writing, “I have not stopped smiling since last night.” The date of his induction has not been announced yet.

Runner-Up Lauren Alaina Was Already Inducted
American Idol Season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina, who finished in second place behind McCreery, was already inducted into the Grand Ole Opry last year. She was invited to become a member by fellow country star Trisha Yearwood.
Alaina was inducted in February of 2022, and she later called it “the best day of my life,” sharing, “My entire life, all I remember is being a little girl and thinking that I’ve gotta make it to the Grand Opry.”
McCreery and Alaina were both teenagers when they competed on Season 10. McCreery was 17, and Alaina was 16. They’ve both gone on to find success in the music industry, having released several albums over the years.
