‘Voice’ Winner Jake Hoot Releases Duet With Coach Kelly Clarkson [VIDEO]
Season 17 The Voice winner Jake Hoot recently collaborated with his coach Kelly Clarkson on a new song. The pair released “I Would’ve Loved You,” along with an accompanying music video.
The song is off Jake’s new EP, Love Out of Time. He announced the collaboration with Kelly last month. Check out their music video below, and read on to learn more about the song.
Jake Hoot And Kelly Clarkson Release A Song Together
Jake said on Instagram that he was “so proud” of how his music video with Kelly turned out. The clip features the pair wandering an empty theater while singing the emotional breakup song.
Both Jake and Kelly wear dramatic all-black outfits, with Kelly sporting some dark eye makeup. At the end of the video, they meet up on the stage to combine their voices for an epic finale.
In the song, Jake and Kelly sing about the end of a relationship, with the chorus including the lyrics, “I’m gonna hate you as long and as much / As I would’ve loved you.” Jake told Country Now that the track is “about someone who has so much love to give, but due to the other person’s decisions, that love turns into a hate that lasts forever.”
What Was Jake’s Experience Working With Kelly?
“I’m so proud of you,” Kelly Clarkson wrote on Instagram about Jake Hoot’s new EP, encouraging people to listen. Jake gave Kelly her third win on The Voice in 2019, and was also her first male artist to take home the trophy.
“She’s just a wealth of knowledge and she’s a huge supporter and a huge encourager,” Jake told People of Kelly after his win. “Hopefully the road doesn’t end here, and I’ll be able to get to work with her moving forward. But everything’s just been incredible.”
Jake told Everything Nash that Kelly had previously suggested they collaborate. “She called me back immediately and she said, ‘I want to shout this from the rooftops. Yes, I’m in,’” he recalled of her first time hearing the song.
The pair managed to coordinate their busy schedules (including Jake’s upcoming wedding) to record the song and shoot the music video. Jake said “it just all worked perfectly.”
